In South Tampa, Florida, Gasparilla truly is the Biggest Party of the Year. Residents close to the Bayshore Boulevard parade route hang their best Gasparilla decor and open the their homes, and lawns, to revelers decked out in their own best pirate outfits for the day. Frequently beginning with a full breakfast or brunch spread with mimosas and ending in an evening of admiring each others hard-earned bead collections over catered BBQ, Gasparilla is a full day celebration not to be missed.
This year I worked with clients to create entranceway decor for Gasparilla using a mix of Mardi Gras + Gasparilla color themes to give the doorway a colorful and festive look to last the entire Gasparilla season beginning with the Kids Parade and ending with the Night Parade held in Ybor.
Obviously Gasparilla decor is pirate themed first so Jolly Rogers, gold doubloons, treasure chest and swords are prevalent in the decor as well as the colors red, black and white, however given geography and calendar, it is also strongly influenced by Mardi Gras and it’s traditional beads which opens the decor color palate to purples, blues, greens and lots of metallic
Since we wanted the entranceway decor to last the entire Gasparilla season the look is festive but tastefully to reflect the homeowners and neighborhood.
