Out with old and just ok.
In with the loved and fantastic!
Now I know you are going to want to jump right to the loved and fantastic but first we have a bit of work to do around house to prepare.
That’s right, today we are going to
Make Way for an Upgrade
by moving out the old and no longer serving us items and prepare for the best of what we already have an want in our homes.
Top to bottom.
Back to front.
We are going to pull out, clean out and move along all items that are blocking your way, creating stress or holding unwanted memories.
Get ready because, you are going to need to put on your big girl underwear and roll up your sleeves to get this done. But I PROMISE you will feel lighter and more in love with your space than ever before.
How can I make such a promise? Because I have done it and although the process will most likely take more than a day – to be honest perhaps even longer than our 14 days together – the sense of accomplishment and overall calm you will feel in any room in your home is nothing short of a miracle.

How do I know?
Approximately 3 years ago I read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up – I reference it in Day 1 of the Dwell Well Mini-Series – and somehow was able to get my husband on board to tidy and edit our home with me.
We worked through the various categories each weekend and I could not believe how much “stuff” we were able to edit out of closets, drawers, rooms.
And it is not about getting rid of junk. Not at all. We moved along some really good items! Like really good. Good items that simply were not serving either of us any longer. From clothes to books to dishes to linens to shoes and pillows. Donating most and recycling as much as we could.
What are your next steps to make way for an upgrade in your home?
The method that was most effective for me – and that I suggest for you – is working through each category in your home rather than each room. I have done the room by room edit for years but for me the category by category edit was the missing link.
For instance seeing all my coats piled up on the bed and only keeping the ones that when I touched and held them “told” me to keep or pass along was a new way of editing to me.
Pulling out ALL my books from every room, drawer or cabinet and hold each one to make a decision on if it stays or goes was life changing. Truly.
So I challenge you to work through this while you have the time and space to do so.
You will need a plan. What is yours?
Edit on your own?
Work through a book?
There is no wrong way.
But you will need to stay on track and push through the areas that are hard for you. If you have a spouse / significant other / roommates / kids / anyone else you are sharing your home with these days, be sure to let them know what you are doing as it may get messy before it gets clean.
Also, it will be important for them to edit their own items. YOU can not do this for them.I can’t wait to hear and see all your progress! Please share on your Instagram story or Facebook Page how you are finding ways to #DwellWell! Share and post using the hashtag #DwellWell.
