Set the Scene :: Welcoming Guests
Champagne is ALWAYS appropriate in my book. Welcome guest with a chilled bottle in a clear glass or crystal ice bucket and after pouring the first drink, let guests refill on their own as they wish.
Greet Easter guests with a few bites to nibble on before sitting down to dinner. A simple cheese platter accompanied by bright green olives and thinly sliced prosciutto will keep hunger at bay and leave room for your full Easter menu to be enjoyed.
Trendy bar carts are fabulous, but if you don’t happen to have one, or are limited on space, simply set up a beverage station at the end of your table to welcome guests as they arrive.
Set The Table :: A Spring Inspired Table
Separate the two areas – beverage + appetizers vs. dining – with potted spring bulbs and tall pussy willow branches in a vase to create a natural screen. This still allows for guests to experience each display as its own presentation.
I am sure I say this every season BUT, nothing says spring to me like a bouquet of flowers! Tulips, Hyacinth and early Peonies combined with spring branches like Curly Willow, and Forsythia mimic the outdoors and bring a breath of fresh air to your dining space.
There is no wrong combination of flowers so mix and match as you find them. Cut approximately 1 inch off the ends, place in a pitcher or vase with fresh cool water and line the center of your table.
*Note – Daffodils prefer to have their own space and will last longer when not mixed with other stems. But if you want to live on the wild side, mix them in too!
Setting The Table :: It’s All In The Details
I love to add a small detail to each placesetting to make each guest feel special. It can be a gift to take home, a small taste to start the meal or in this case a malted robin’s egg placed in a grapevine birds nest to eat whenever they wish – of course mine would be gone the second I sat down!
Ceramic egg cups with bright yellow unexpected webbed duck feet and another touch of whimsy and hold additional malted eggs in case yours goes missing early in the meal.
Nature inspired salt and pepper shakers by Michael Aram continue the nature them on this spring inspired tablescape.
Oversized pink chargers ground each placesetting and allow for a full-sized white china dinner plate, Italian ceramic inspired blue salad plates with a freshly pressed hemstitch white linen napkin all topped by the bird’s nest detail.
Dinner Is Served
As always, the most important part of this Spring Inspired Tablescape is the people seated around the table. Although there may be a little stress getting the table set and the meal prepared once you pop that bottle of champagne and your guests arrive be sure to let it all go and truly enjoy the people around you.
Cheers to your spring celebrations. May they be filled with flowers, friends and fun!
