Let’s be honest real is almost always better then faux but, I can think of exactly two occasions when faux is better than real.
First, when you are going on vacation and you switch out your engagement ring for a faux diamond ring “just in case”.
Second, when you want your Fall entranceway decor to last more than a few weeks on a sunny front porch in warm location such as Florida.
I have tried for years to use all the real and live gourds when I can, however I finally gave in a realized that for certain homes, and clients, the best way to achieve a festive Fall entranceway is to use faux gourds and pumpkins along with other live plant material such as mums, ornamental kale and corn stalks mixed in.

Whats The Best Way to Use Faux Gourds and Pumpkins?
Well that all depends on your what direction your entranceway faces and how much exposure it will get to the elements. And what those exact elements are to be honest.
My first bit of advice would be to try mixing faux gourds in with the live plants and possibly real gourds and pumpkins when possible. This will allow for a full looking display while still utilizing the gorgeous colors of real gourds.

Upgrade Your Fall Entranceway Decor
Second bit of advice, don’t skimp on the product. Let’s face it, in all categories of life you generally get what you pay for and when swapping out real for faux pumpkins this is definitely true.
Some faux gourds will look amazing and you can barely tell until you are close up they are not real. Others you can spot as fakes from far away. Assuming you will be storing and reusing your faux display, opt for what the top of your budget will allow and feel justified in spending a bit more on a few beauties to elevate your display for years to come.

Add Different Levels and Materials to Your Display For Visual Interest
Wood baskets or containers holding ferns, mums or cabbage bring your eyes up one level and easily lead the eyes up to the taller corn stalks on either side of the doorway.
Think about similar options for your faux gourds. Seasonally stenciled b wood crates or signage add a different element and hold your gourds and pumpkins for an abundant look and feel.
I found these fantastic natural vine sections in a design center. They are such an interesting and unusual element, I just love the movement they add to the display.

How to Properly Store Faux Gourds
My final bit of advice is to be sure to store and care for your faux as they deserve to be treated. Before placing them out for the season wipe them down and secure any stems or bases that may have come loose during storage.
When it is time to pack them up for the season wipe them down again to remove dust, dirt or debris then let them fully dry before putting them away. This will reduce the risk of mold forming on them or another decor you might be storing together.
Placing foam sheets around or between layers protects the usual foam or plastic material from puncture while stacking and storing your faux gourds.
Consider purchasing a large storage bin to keep them all together. Label the bin before putting it away for the year so you can clearly locate it next fall.
